Road Trip Help 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Hey guys,

In a few weeks I’m going to be going on my first real long road trip. From Orting WA to Gillette WY and back through Southern Idaho/Northern Oregon. With side trips and detours I’m estimating about 2,400 miles. I will be with two friends also with the metric variety. Now I am not new to motorcycles but I am fairly new to my Road Star. Just looking for some tips and tricks, maybe some do’s and do not’s getting ready for my trip. Pre-trip, Packing, etc. I am already planning on changing the engine oil and transfer case oil, checking my spark plugs, and tire pressure, breaks are new and rotors are fine, and my clutch is properly adjusted. Anything more I should be doing? Also any tips while on the trip? Never know when someone’s piece of knowledge could come in handy! Thanks for all your help, I am finding this forum to be extremely informative. My Road Star is a 2003 with 16,000 miles on it.

Extra bungee cords, zip ties, and a small assortment of tools. Basic metric wrenches and a set of Allen wrenches. They take up very little room and can come in very handy when you least expect it

Thanks! I was planning on making some type of small emergency tool kit but I had not thought about zip ties!

Factory tool kit, some zip ties, an allen wrench set and your AAA and credit cards.

All you will ever need.

Get a tire plug kit, with the CO2 bottles, out in the middle of now where with a nail in your tire, can screw up your trip.
