Skwearpeg, I can tell you he had that carb in and out more than ten times since I've been here. Each time the process of taking it out and putting it back in gets faster...uh, total of 2.5 minutes maybe? I have learned more about carbs than I ever wanted to know .

I'm with smoke. Throw that beast in the trailer and we'll have something to do Saturday after the ride!

I literally couldn't sleep. So I just came into the garage and removed the manifold. It looks like its in good shape. I'll pick up some hylomar in the morning and reseal it.

Thanks Jason.

Fingers crossed

You probably won't see where the leak was this soon. It's just air sneaking in

If you can't find the Hylomar, Permatex makes some stuff that is like it, that I got at Auto Zone. It's called Permasheild, #85420. Use a bit of grease(a spot or dab) in 3 or 4 locations, to hold the orings in, and the hylomar goes around the outside of the o-rings. Just a nice even thin layer, more then a film, but not to thick. You want the flanges to pull up properly, and not have a canary under the carpet.
Go straight in from the side, being careful not to wipe the hylomar off on the fins.
When the manifold is in place, replace the screws to finger tight, and then start snugging them just a bit at a time(1/8 to 1/4 turn), Alternating between them criss cross, and back and forth until their tight.

If you want, and it might be a good idea considering...

When you get ready to replace the carb, you could even wipe some hylomar around the carb where it slips into the manifold. Just a thin film(like the adhesive on a label). The hylomar remains pasty, and doesn't set up, so it'll be a bit harder to pull the carb out of the manifold next time, but it'll come. It'll be kinda like that mud hole, that doesn't want to let go of your boot.

Wipe out the inside of the manifold where the carb seats before replacing the carb. Get it set properly, and snug the clamp that holds it in place.

Finish putting things back together, and give it a go.

Good luck.

If the manifold has some surface cracks, you could pick up some black RTV while your at the store(it'll be right there in the same place in the store), and after the manifold is reinstalled, smear the RTV into the cracks.

I'm sorry I'm not closer Jim...

While your taking care of this, Scooter could make me some pancakes, and we could kick back in the kitchen while you finish up
