If you think it runs better after an oil change try waxing it.

Re:Oil Change warning 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I changed mine today, as it is finally warm enough to ride. I put mine on a jack and have plenty of room to get my pan, ( a cut off 5 gallon bucket bottom )under the bike and not spill a drop. I do empty the front plug and drain the pan and then the rear. 2 quarts of oil in the empty tank and it only reads 1/4 on the stick. Then I run it into the engine, add 2 more and walk away. After a 50 mile ride I check for leaks and it's done.

changed mine yesterday on the side stand. No special tools just a pitsburg 17 mm combination wrench and a 17 mm socket set. Shallow oil drain pan I have had for years that will hold 8 quarts if need be. That barely fit but it fit...30 minutes later and I was done. Only issue I had was oil filter and I will get a filter strap wrench for that before next change

yes the warning was about the amount of oil to expect out of the oil tank. Don't guess at container size. KNOW lol. I also forgot to mention the PO had apparently not been convinced that the front plug was really metric. All corners rounded and the 17mm did not want to go on at all. a file and some persuasion solved that too.

I completely like changing it on the stand better than when I was trying in on the ground. I have one so I might as well use it. So much easier. even having to move it right now. I like the Cake pan idea though Bikeron, have to use that one.

Putting in on the stand Also helped me confirm that my headstock bearing need torqued. Completely failed the flop test. I had my suspicions after what I read here and how the bike handle at stops, but it is confirmed now.

Invest in a good bike jack, there are several out there for less than a $100. You will never regret it... then you can quit monkeying with 2by4s and such..

if you replace the filter with a K&N it has a "nut" molded in the end of it....makes it way easy and they are excellent filters.

About $14.00 at Autozone.

I found a big 'ol square cake pan @ a garage sale for a buck. Fits under there fine and holds all of it and the sharp corners make for easy pouring into a container.

Yup thats what I use too and the K&N for the nut at the end. Use a bike/atv jack stand and all good.

2 x 4 under the kick stand. No lift, filter wrench, stubby wrench, and a ratcheting wrench on the rear plug. Plastic drain tub. Done.

Like someone said in another thread.

The hardest part of changing the oil (for the older folks) is getting back up when you're done.
