We got a ride in yesterday, just went into garberville and rode the avenue of the giants for a bit. Was good to be out on the bikes, no schedule, nothing to dictate destination.

Today, it is raining and cold... so, got the chores done and now just snuggling with dogs on my feet next to the heater enjoying the fact that the RSC is back up =)

I love the Ave. of the Giants! I used to ride a Century , (100 miles), that started and stopped in Ferndale. Went through the Giants and then up and over Panther Pass, I think it was called, to the Unknown Coast and back to Ferndale. That would be a great ride for you and Toby with your bikes! In fact, I'll have to put that on my list of rides in Ca that I want to do with my wife.

Here's the link showing the route: http://tuccycle.org/rides/100_mile_route/

Awesome! thank you for the link! I see that this is a bicycle route, how are the roads? gravel or paved?
lol I can do gravel I just prefer not to

If I remember correctly, there was a very small section of the road that was kind of gravely, but not so bad that I didn't ride my $6500 rode bike on it, lol! At $75/tire, you don't take them off road too often, lol. That was like 10 years ago so I'd like to think it's fixed by now. Yeah, it's not a mountain bike trail, it for road bikes for sure. The section that they call "The Wall" after you peel away from the coastline is STEEP! So be careful there.

Yeah I just goole mapped the route, and the area, it is funny but as long as I have lived in this area (I Used to live in whitethorn, just up the briceland thorn road lol) I have never explored that part of Humboldt County. I am pretty sure they have paved most of it by now. We had to do the ettisburg road one winter to get to eureka when a HUGE mudslide took out about a half mile of 101.

I think we will go exploring out that way next ride, looks like pretty country. will take lots of pics

First ride last year was April 10th. With the wind chill here in Maine at 0°, and close to 2' of snow in the yard, it might be well after that date this year. I will have to put California on my list of places to retire.
