500 CCA battery to test 2 Years, 5 Months ago
A few of you know I had a battery issue this year in Celina (what a great place for a problem to arise!!). Thanks again davej for the gifted battery, it still cranks away. My battery's usually take a dump far from home and I have to buy from a roadside parts house. Well I purchased that Chinese 500CCA Power Source Lightening Start that looks overrated. I'm not a smart man but I have a meter if our humble RSC battery smart people would like me to test anything before I install and run it.

Out of the box it shows 12.82v. It is scribed 7-15-15 on the top, I'm guessing the I service date.?

From Amazon for $100, received in 3 days. Sorry links not linking....

Here's a few pics

I'm happy to know that battery is still cranking strong. I don't know how old it is as I had 2 of them,1 was my OEM 07 and the other was out of a friends bike and was only replaced because he didn't know how old it was. Well that must be the one out of my friends bike and a bit newer than 07. As far as the Lightning start some will tell you that it can't be a 500 cca battery, I done some reasearch and even call tech support and it is actually a 550 cca. I bought the same battery for my bike when I installed the Big Bore kit. Also the Lightning start is not a Chinese battery it is made in the USA. I would put it on a 2amp charge for a couple hrs if you have a opportunity to do so. They say just drop in and go and I'm sure you can but I just always like to top them off first. Here is what I found from a battery look up sight that gives info on just about every MC battery made.

"Power Source Lightning Start WPX20L-LS Sealed AGM Power Sport Battery Replacements
This WPX20L-LS Power Source Lightning Start motorcycle battery is made or distributed by Lynn Vick Products and is a Sealed AGM.This means it is sealed and activated in the factory and will arrive in a fully charged state. Simply drop it in and go for a ride! There is no need to mess with acid and if you end up in a situation where you lay the bike down there will be no acid spilling out to mess up your custom chrome.

All Power Source Lightning Start WPX20L-LS aftermarket motorcycle batteries are made in USA. It is a 12V battery and has cold cranking amps of 550 and an amp hour rating of 18. This motorcycle battery comes with a full 12 Mo. free motorcycle battery replacement warranty."

On Dave's recommendation I bought a Power Source (black top) battery. I charged it up when I got it home and I'm quite pleased with it's power. I can leave the bike on for 15 min and the bike starts first time.

Well Dave the battery might work fine for folks and I'm glad of that. But as far as being made in the USA nope. The "Made in China" print is clear on the bottom right of the second picture.

Yea it is pretty clear I didn't see that Only going by what was in print from the article I posted and the fact that, that is not printed on mine or in the pic in the link posted above. I can only guess that since I bought mine, the pic in the link was taken and the quote in my post above was written that the company went off shore for manufacturing. I know you don't believe that it's CCA isn't as advertised but you have never given any sort of proof to contradict it's claim. IIRC your claim was that the guy from Yuasa said it couldn't be or something to that effect. It's really not worth my time anymore to debate it (again)and I don't have a dog in this hunt so I guess it is what it is. Don't want one don't buy one.

its is actually pretty easy to determine, take the battery to a local auto parts store with a portable battery tester and have them test the actual CCA of the battery on the spot. Those little tester do an AC resistance type test that should tell you if it is right or not. Make sure it is 100% charged though. End the debate once and for all.

Still trying to figure out n the non-hazardous part. Unless it is a LIPO can't see how that is.

I don't think the store testers will give that info. At least that is what I was told by a couple different stores when I called to inquire about doing just that.

I'm not far from a big interstate battery store. I'll take it by there and see if they can educate me (yes I know that's asking a lot!!).

More to come....
