Using Mustang Driver seat without the bolt 1 Year ago
I'd like to use my Mustang driver's seat without having to bolt it down at the back of the seat. The Mustang seat doesn't seem to have a bracket to fit into the bike frame the way the stock seat would. Any ideas on where to start to fabricate some sort of bracket? I don't have a stock seat to copy.

The reason for this ramble is I'd like to be able to get the seat off without the use of a tool, just by ubn-latching with the key and whalla! off it comes.

Thanks

DK, but you could always make a cool knob using a decorative car shift knob, dice, car cigarette lighter knob, etc. Then you wouldn't need a tool.

Can you fabricate a custom tongue and bolt it to the bottom of the rear of the seat and slip it into the stock receiver?

Sorry, not sure I can help you right off the bat, but is there any way you could post a picture of how the Mustang seat mounts on the back as a solo? I have the mustang rider passenger combination bolted together from the previous owner. I was trying to figure out how just the rider seat was designed to mount up as a solo. Thanks, mike

I'll pic it in the am. I fabbed two brackets that slide under the back of the driver's seat. I'll add pics of the set up.

When using it as a solo the back of the seat bolts to the fender using the bolt hole that the rear seat bracket uses. When using it as a 2up seat the back of the seat bolts to the underside of the passenger seat. It is a goofy setup and is a PITA. When I had one I could unlatch it and spin it to the side just enough to get to the battery but not enough to remove the battery if needed.

Couldn't get the pics of the seats to load here, too big, and I'm not sure how to shring the sizes, so, heres a link to the underside of my seats in facebook: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10211874962420507&set=gm.10155875584558986&type=3.

I think I want to fab a bracket to fit into the stock driver's seat back retainer and then use the stock passenger seat bracket, if I can find one. I know I can order one for $40 or so, but I'm cheap and that seems like a lot of beer and pizza for a hunk of stamped out steel.

The above link doesn't work.... Grrrr. https://www.facebook.com/groups/9501233985/ is the link for Yamaha Roadstar Riders group, then look in recent pics. Sorry I'm such a neophyte at this
