I tend to agree. I would rather just hang out and socialize. Bbq on the other hand, I'm always ready for bbq.

My no-cents take on it....
I rode through Leatherwood Sunday and it's literally like a big park. Lots of trees, large grassy areas, a real camp store and bath house. The store rents jon boats/kayaks/paddle boats/canoes, has bait, basic sundries and camp needs. The pavilion I saw was on the north side and more then 100 yards from any cabin/camp and looked to have a firebox on one side. I think there might be numerous hiking/nature trails emanating from the grounds too.
I say on we individually reserve your anticipated cabin/site and we'll have a hell of a good time!

BBQ.... O yeah. We need one of Thads locals (and company) to tend the pit while we ride.

Band.... I reach out to Thad again.... Nothing formal.... I'm thinking you know some good ol boys that are gonna be picking in someone's barn/yard that evening anyway. Invite a half dozen out there (with washboards/spoons/jugs and things with strings) for BBQ, a drink and a picking session.

I went to Lake Leatherwood at lunch today. They will rent us what ever we need. We each just pick what we want and reserve it. They recently bought 3 camper cabins and possibly 3 more by spring. They are very small with no plumbing. I have pics if some one can post them. The pavilion is smaller than KOA but has a big fireplace in the middle. The people are much nicer to deal with. I don't think we'd have many non-RSC neighbors during October. She told me she would call when they start reservations for next year. She said it would be after the first of the year. I hope this works for us. The pavilion isn't in very good shape but everything else seems fine. If anybody wants me to check any place else out please let me know.

When I rode through Sunday evening it was the first time I had seen a deer on that outing and there were about 20 in two different spots, some were at the pavilion! It was pretty tranquil. It did look as though 3 or 4 cabins had guests and I noticed one camper and one tent. There was lots of space and lots of grass too. It was also silent except for a breeze blowing through the trees (it sets way way way off the road). I didn't ride up to the cabins but I did go to the end of the road (past the cabins) to the boat ramp and that much was asphalt.

Here's a question Thad...? Did the pavilion hold a few tables and have an a/c outlet. I should have looked closer when I rode through.

That was a couple of days of outstanding riding Thad, thanks again!! I'm looking forward to 11 months passing so we can do it again!!

Not much room in that pavilion and no electric that I could see. There are a couple tent sites near it with electric. I thought of renting a big tent if needed. There is room for one picnic table at each end of the pavilion.
I can't wait for next year.

I just received an email from Lake Leatherwood. The lady that runs the parks department is trying wo work us up a very good deal for the whole park. She said she will get back with me soon. It still may be out of our price range but we'll see. I also asked her to contact me just as soon as they start taking reservations for next year.

I got an email from Lake leatherwood tonight. They have one large area that will hold 10 or more tents plus 4 rv's that they said they would rent us for $300.00 for the 3 day weekend and then who ever wants a cabin can rent one. I don't like this deal. I think we all should just rent what we want. Not many bikers pull RV's. It sounds like we can start making reservations. If anyone thinks the big site is a good idea please speak up.It basically is the whole bottom field. I haven't been down on that field for a spell and don't remember what the road is like. I can go take a look. It's a ways from the cabins and bath house but would give us our own large area to hang out. I can go look this weekend and let y'all know. Anyone wanting a cabin please start making reservations.

I'll go with what ever you think. A cabin is fine with me.

I went and looked at that big camp site on my way home from work. It's down in a bottom field and has rv hookups. It has 5 picnic tables and a big fire pit. It's $100.00 a day and all the tents we care to pack in that spot. The place has 5 big cabins with kitchen and bath and a 2 bedroom house for rent and some very little camper cabins with electric only. It has a big bath house for tent campers.

I've been thinking about that big campsite and I like it but if it was rainy that bottom field may not be much fun on a motorcycle. They did say we could still use the pavilion even if we take the lower campsite. It would be a bit of a walk between the cabins and that site and a bit of a walk to the bath house from that site.
Everyone please give some input on this. I took some pics of the big campsite that I can text to someone if they want to post them.
