Need help... Not a roadstar 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My son has a vtx 1800. Selenoid went out so he bought a cheap ebay one. It stuck closed and ran the starter constantly. That in turn burned up the battery but did no harm to the starter..... Bought a new battery and new more expensive selenoid. Hooked everything up and CLICK CLICK... It will not do anything. Jump the selenoid and it fires right up. NO WAY he got 2 in a row bad selenoids I wouldn't think. Any other ideas?

CLICK CLICK means you hear the solenoid clicking, I assume?

Obviously there are two pieces to this. Solenoids connection to the starter, and the coils triggering the solenoid.

(Four contacts, two triggering the coil, two connecting the batter to the solenoid.)

If you're getting voltage to the solenoid coils, the starter button, safety switches, etc. are OK...,
and it is time to go shopping again..

Steve, I am having the same problem with my cousins Vulcan 1500. we replaced the solenoid with another OEM unit (Magnetic Switch as the factory calls it ) There is something wrong with the power on the latching side of the solenoid but I have yet to figure out what.

The first place I would start with yours would be the starter switch contacts and then work your way through that circuitry to the relay. If you have the wiring diagrams for the bike you could figure out which 2 terminals on the solenoid power the latching coil and apply direct power to them from the battery to test the solenoid, but I kinda doubt its bad myself, especially if its OEM.
