1600 vs 1700 Fork Tubes 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Hey Everyone.

I know someone knows this one. Is there any difference between 1600 and 1700 Fork Tubes ?
If so, how can I tell?

I have a set of chrome tubes I want to put on my 1600, and just want to make sure of what I actually have before I buy rebuild kits. I was told they were for 1600, but you know how that works.

Are the rebuild parts the same ? The problem is I'm not sure if these are 1600 or 1700 tubes. These tubes were chromed and are not the stock 1700 chrome tubes.

Since the lower trees are the same I would think the tubes are too. I have a 1600 lower tree on my 1700.

Sorry, maybe I'm not being to clear. The manual is calling the parts I'm referring to as "lower outer tubes" I will be using my same inner 1600 tubes and same triple clamp.

The identical Showa 43mm fork tube assemblies were used on all years, 99-2014. The only difference is the finish spec on the tubes. You should be fine as long as they did not plate the inside of the tube.

Perfect, thanks JD. They didn't plate the inside, just looks like a little Chem residue. I'll have to find a bottle brush or something to clean the crap out. So I'll just go ahead and pick up the rebuild kit and seals for my year 1600.
