Next up... I want to go with a single front disc brake. I want to remove the left rotor. Maybe attempt to cut off the mounting flange on the wheel. Take off the mount from the fork leg... I think I already have the correct single brake hose.

I have an old R1 6-pot right side caliper that bolts right up!

I am in need of the brake hose loops/guides. The one that goes on the right side, just above the caliper, and attaches between the fender and the fork tube. I also need the one that attaches to the underside of the upper triple tree clamp.

If anyone can help me out with those brake hose guides, I'd be glad to offer whatever is reasonable.

Questcap,

I went back and read all your posts. You've got my full attention. I'm totally impressed with your resourcefulness and the thought process you've put into your modifications. I'm going to be mounting a K&N after I get it for a Christmas present and you've shown me a great example of a mount. I'm not doing a Rat Bobber, but this is to let you know that your ideas and Modications are recognized buy all bike builders. Thanks for the great pics and write ups. Keep them comming. Great job !!

Rob

Thanks, Rob.

I'm going to notch the rear arm of the mount, and bring the idle knob and cable up to it and attach it there.

I did the same with my other 2 Road Stars, and it's a good placement; real easy to reach whenever you're stopped.

There's so much black on these 1700 motors, I think I should blackout the mount. It draws too much attention to itself.

Okay, so I bent up and mounted the air filter mounting bracket to the K&N and put it on the bike.

The first pic, looking down on the top, shows the 2 bends I put in each arm to line it all up correctly.

This, of course, is the back side view.

Then I bolt it right on. It's not coming off.

I need a new cover, since the letters are upside down. I'll be fun to see what I ultimately come up with. Any ideas???

how about a piece of that road sign..... with the old paint still on it....? i kinda think the steel covers can be removed....? i have one and it sorta looks like it would come off if you hit it with a heat gun, then you could glue it back on right way up. (maybe some one will have an old one they could try it on...?)
i thought i was the only one using old road signs.... i actually pick up the whole sign.... post and all..... infact truth is i pick up any steel i see laying on the ground

just had another thought..... cut open a beer can or a JD can and flatten it out

keep the pic's coming

Thanks, MH, I'll definitely keep my eyes open... especially while walking the aisles at Lowe's or Home depot.

Actually, Bed, Bath & Beyond have round... soap dishes. One of them just might do the trick!

If you look at the pic of the backside again, you can see the top of the letters O, U and R from the TWO HOUR PARKING of the sign!

One other little subtlety you'd not likely notice... in the last pic, in the upper right, I have cut off the fork lock loops from the frame and lower triple tree clamp... have never used one... not about to now, I suppose. Just another idea to further lighten and clean up the thing a tiny bit more.

I remove things like the clutch lever switch, and the kickstand safety switch... and cut back the kickstand frame mount where the switch used to reside. Again, all in the interest of removing anything extraneous, and to make it a little 'cleaner' looking.

I just had me an idea! I think I'll try re-forming the shape of the boards some, and, then as a new face or surface, attach some old car tire tread on them!

How cool might that look???

There you go... remove some soles and reshape the boards to the shape and size of the sole!!!

I have a friend who runs the cobbler shop in town! I'll bet he has some in his trash!!!

Actually, I want bigger than just a shoe sole size, which I why I was thinking some car tire tread. But, I will think on it some more... maybe a really big shoe size, 13 or bigger, would be enough..........
