Free Library-Owned eTextbooks Avaliable

Posted in Academic Communities, General News, and Students

The Pollak Library has released a list of textbooks for the Spring 2019 semester that are available to students for free as library eBooks. This list can be found on the Pollak Library web page and will be updated each semester for students to refer back to during the start of each term.

Students balancing academics and work find the costs of textbooks each semester as a difficult, ever-increasing burden. Many independent students are juggling tuition, housing, and basic living costs all while attending classes and allocating time each week for work. This list of available eTextbooks for your courses provides a great way to save on spending an absurd amount on materials each year for your classes.

“Our hope is that awareness of these resources saves students tens of thousands of dollars this semester and helps them focus more on succeeding in their classes, from start to finish.”

— Mark G. Bilby, PhD, MSLIS, Scholarly Communications Librarian

The cost of textbooks is increasing much faster than most consumer products. The average college student spends an estimated $1,440 on books and materials. [1] In a recent survey, 65% of students did not purchase a textbook for their classes because of the overwhelming increase in prices. [2]

“Special thanks to Scholarly Communications Librarian Mark Bilby and all others who contributed to this effort. I am thrilled that we can support our students in this way and reduce their financial burden. We will continue to support this work.”

— Emily Bonney, Dean, Pollak Library

The Pollak Library hopes that students take advantage of these resources while saving on textbook costs each year. Visit the web page to see if your required texts are available for free at the Pollak Library.
