Mapping of broadband services: intensive stakeholder consultations

The 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on the Mapping study (phase II of the EU Monitoring Platform for the Mapping of Broadband Services in Europe) took place on 12-13 December in Brussels. Around 70 representatives from various sectors as well as regulatory authorities exchanged information on measuring quality of broadband services in Europe. The online mapping platform is to go online in 2018.

During the first workshop on 12 December, the European Commission consulted about 70 representatives from telecoms industry, manufacturing and content providers, utilities, transport and the energy sectors, as well as consumer associations, research and academia about issues related to the measuring quality of broadband service in Europe. The outcome of the first day was reported during a second workshop on 13 December. National regulatory authorities and relevant MS Ministries in charge of mapping initiatives discussed their contribution to the development of the EU platform for measuring quality of broadband services in Europe, including technical, regulatory and standardisation issues both at European and International level. The consultation about the EU platform will continue in 2017 with both sets of stakeholders. The platform is expected to go live during the course of 2018.
