What's next

Energy efficiency projects will continue to be supported under the Horizon Europe and LIFE programmes in the new Multi-annual Financial Framework 2021-2027.

EASME’s Energy Unit will move to the new European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).

The new CINEA has been formally established by the European Commission (EU2021/173) and will start its operations on 1 April 2021.
The CINEA will focus its work on supporting the implementation of the European Green Deal by managing relevant Union programmes with a total budget of €52bn over the period of 2021-2027, including parts of Horizon Europe, LIFE, the Climate Innovation Fund, the Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism and parts of the Connecting Europe Facility. On 16 March 2021 the Council adopted its position at first reading on the LIFE programme for 2021-2027 paving the way for its final adoption. The final step will be the approval of the text by the European Parliament at second reading. Please find here the draft LIFE Regulation.

LIFE is the EU's flagship programme for nature, biodiversity protection and the fight against climate change. From 2021, energy efficiency and renewable energy projects will also benefit from funding via LIFE.

During the EUSEW2020 event, a dedicated session also presented the new LIFE-Clean Energy Transition sub-programme, which will continue the market uptake activities from H2020 Energy Efficiency.
