Communication webinar for H2020 Energy Efficiency

On Thursday, 12th December, EASME organised a one-hour communication webinar for Horizon 2020 energy efficiency projects and potential applicants to the calls 2020.

The objective of the webinar was to give guidance on effective exploitation, dissemination and communication activities. The H2020 Heat Roadmap Europe project shared its best practices.

We have collected all the questions submitted via Since time didn’t allow to properly answer to all of them, we listed the replies here below:

  • Open Access: check the detailed guidance on H2020 online manual.
  • Communicating to the general public: always try and relate technical issues to everyday life and concrete examples, avoiding technical language. See also EASME's communication toolkit for further guidance.
  • Getting promotion through EASME channels: get in contact with your Project Adviser to be featured in an article/interview on our website.
  • Tagging EnergyEfficiency on social media: on Twitter, tag @H2020EE each time you have a publication, event or achievement you would like us to share. If your project is focused in the buildings topic, tagging @EU_BUILDUP is more specific. Consider tagging also DG ENERGY: @Energy4Europe when your content is particularly interesting.
  • Tracking social media activities: you can use tracking options directly inside social media (like Twitter Analytics) or dedicated tools like Socialbakers, Hootsuite and Brandwatch.
  • Relations with media: reach out to them and try and build a long-term personal relation with journalists. Produce content (like press release) using simple language and linking your activities to everyday life. 
  • KPIs: every communication strategy need a KPI- listing with numbers. Pay attention when combining different data, because comparisons become more difficult. Focus on outreach activities. 
  • IP rights: use content that is copyright-free. If you are looking for pictures, consider browsing Pixabay or creating an account on Canva
  • GDPR compliance: whenever you are collecting data, add a data protection notice explaining which details are you collecting, with which objective and for how long they will be kept. For newsletter, subscription has to be active and always unsuscribe
  • Common Dissemination Booster & Common Exploitation Booster services: DG Research & Innovation is in charge of the Boosters and they may be able to share lessons learnt with you.   • Stakeholders mapping/audience segmentation process: For further details, please check out the communication guidance on EASME and on H2020.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan: EASME will not ask you for the personal data of stakeholders; however, we might ask you to provide further information as regards to which stakeholders you are targeting (e.g. researchers, public authorities, SME’s) to understand whether your communication efforts are sufficiently targeted and we may be able to advise you based on that information, for example, to include other relevant stakeholders.
