EU to dedicate nearly EUR 41 million to innovative projects on digital security

The EU funds nine new security projects that will work on cybersecurity and privacy solutions for citizens and for SMEs and micro Enterprises. With a total of almost EUR 41 million funding, the EU wants to boost innovation not only in the cybersecurity, privacy and data protection sectors but also for critical sectors, such as healthcare infrastructure and transport systems.

The selected projects are :

  • CyberKit4SME, GEIGER, PALANTIR and PUZZLE are addressing the specific needs of SMEs and Micro Enterprises
  • project TRAPEZE is dedicated to cybersecurity and privacy solutions for citizens.
  •  In addition, four projects aim directly at two specific essential and critical sectors: AI4HEALTHSEC and HEIR look at the healthcare infrastructure, whereas CitySCAPE and E-CORRIDOR focus on multimodal transport systems.

The €41 million funding comes from Horizon 2020, the EU’s €80 billion research and innovation programme.

Next steps

REA,  the EU's research agency, is finalising the preparation and signature of grant agreements with the beneficiaries. The projects will start between June and September 2020 and will run for three years.

All projects were selected for funding under a competitive call for proposals under Societal Challenge 7 ‘Secure societies’ launched on 14 March 2019: Digital security

Out of these nine projects, seven are Innovation Actions, the other two being Research and Innovation Actions.

The EU's financial contribution is made in the form of grants that can be up to 100% of the project’s total budget

More detailed information on each of the projects will soon be available on CORDIS.
