Jean-François Buggenhout joined the European Commission in 2004 in the Directorate General Information Society & Media (DG INFSO - which in 2012 became DG CONNECT). He has occupied various functions related to the design and implementation of the Research and Innovation Framework Programmes (FP6, FP7, H2020) in the field of ICT.
In 2014, Jean-François was appointed deputy head of an Administration and Finance unit, and then of the High Performance Computing and Quantum Technologies unit, specifically focusing on the launch of the FET Flagship initiative on Quantum Technologies. Since June 2018, he is head of the FET Flagships unit.
Jean-François holds a master degree in computer engineering (Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles - ULB, Belgium) and a specialisation in Computer Networks and Systems (Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité – Supélec Rennes, France). Prior to joining the Commission, he worked on Research and Development projects for the private sector (Philips Digital Systems, EVS Broadcast Equipment, etc.).
