Study workshop on small-area wireless access points (small cells)

The aim of this workshop, as part of the ongoing Commission study, was to inform relevant stakeholders and experts about insights and preliminary results, discuss the views of stakeholders and gather concrete feedback that would contribute to the final results of the study.

As such, the outcome of the workshop may contribute to the subsequent design of an EU-wide "light regulation regime", through the Implementing Acts required by Article 57 of the European Electronic Communications Code (EECC), for the easy deployment of  small-area wireless access points, a prerequisite for the development of 5G.

In the light of the above, the Commission invited the telecom industry, Member States, telecom regulators and all interested parties to engage and exchange views, practices and ideas. The stakeholder participation was high and the results of the workshop are summarized in the attached report.
