Call for tenders open for deploying cloud services for the European Open Science Cloud

The OCRE consortium of research and education networks from 48 countries are inviting interested bidders to submit offers for their IaaS+ (Infrastructure as a Service) procurement. This aims to deploy commercial cloud services to empower the research capabilities of the European research community. This OCRE procurement exploits the results of the past HNSciCloud (Helix Nebula Science Cloud) pre-commercial procurement in which such type of innovative cloud based solutions were developed and tested for the European Open Science Cloud. Deadline for submission of offers: 2 June 2020.

Overview of Horizon 2020 projects on “ICT-enabled Public Sector Innovation”

Reducing inequalities, social exclusion and discrimination in Europe are among top EU priorities. By exploring new forms of innovation, strengthening the evidence base and engaging citizens, research is a powerful tool to address these challenges. Horizon2020 funding programme supports projects working on new solutions in this area via its Societal Challenge 6 ‘Europe in a changing world: Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies’. European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities - Action Cluster Workshop Report

This workshop was held on 25 september 2019, alongside the Nordic Edge conference, in line with the strategy to bring EIP-SCC stakeholders together at a more recognised set of events occurring across Europe: notably, the Brussels General Assembly and Brno, Stavanger and Barcelona Smart City conferences. It was also held in the context of a number of important EC-supported dialogues held in Stavanger: the Mission workshop, Smart City Lighthouse learnings and new Programme welcome and the transition of the EIP-SCC Marketplace support contract to the new provider.

Future Government 2030+: Policy Implications and Recommendations

This report provides follow-up insights into the policy implications and offers a set of 57 recommendations, organised in nine policy areas. These stem from a process based on interviews with 20 stakeholders. The recommendations include a series of policy options and actions that could be implemented at different levels of governance systems.

Deploying cloud based services that meet the demands of large-scale scientific projects

In 2019, 10 public research organisations from 7 EU countries completed the EU funded Helix Nebula Science Cloud pre-commercial procurement (HNSciCloud) and kick-started the uptake of new cloud-based systems with big data storage and analysis tools needed by large scientific projects. The HNSciCloud consortium won the 2019 Procura+ Award ‘outstanding innovation procurement in ICT’. May 2020, an extended buyers group of 40 countries started buying the larger rollout across Europe of cloud research services based on the HNSciCloud results.
