What is NFAIS?
The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS™) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that serves the global information community by fostering collaboration among government, academic, not-for-profit and commercial information and technology experts in the development of effective and efficient solutions to the accessibility, discoverability, abstracting and indexing, and retrieval of scholarly content. 

Who do I contact if I have a question or problem?
You can contact the office 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday - Friday by calling (443) 221-2980 or send an email to [email protected]. The NFAIS staff is happy to assist you.

Who is eligible to join NFAIS?
NFAIS welcomes as full members all organizations that create, aggregate, organize or otherwise provide ease of access to and effective navigation and use of authoritative, credible information. Employees of member organizations are granted access to all member benefits. Members pay annual dues on a July 1 - June 30 fiscal cycle. Dues are based upon an organization's gross revenues derived from, or operating budget assigned to, information-related activities.

What is an NFAIS Assembly Representative, and how are they appointed?
Each member organization appoints an assembly representative (or primary contact) to represent them.  Assembly representatives vote on behalf of the member organization, and are the conduit between the organization's staff and NFAIS.  For further information, click here.

How are my membership dues determined?
Membership dues are based on whether you are in the government, academia, not-for-profit or commercial sectors and your gross revenues or operating budget.

Can I get an individual membership if my company doesn't want to become a member?
At this time, NFAIS does not offer individual membership.

What kinds of educational programming does NFAIS offer?
NFAIS provides webinars, seminars, and workshops throughout the year. Many of these educational opportunities are offered virtually, so you can participate without leaving your office. Our annual conference is a three-day event, which offers professionals from around the world the opportunity to share, learn and collaborate with others in the same field.

If I register for an educational event and then find I am unavailable, will I be able to attend virtually at another time?
Our webinars, seminars and workshops are recorded and archived so that, if timing is inconvenient, you can still take advantage of attending these programs. For onsite events, such as the annual conference, cancellation deadlines are posted and refunds are subject to a $25 cancellation fee; however, substitutes from your organization are permitted to attend.

Does NFAIS offer scholarships for its programs and/or annual conference?
At this time, NFAIS does not offer scholarships.

Can I attend NFAIS educational events if I'm not a member or don't work for a member organization?
Yes, you can. While you'll pay a higher price than a member does, all of our professional development programs—webinars, seminars, workshops, etc.—are available to everyone.

I lost my receipt.  How can I print a duplicate copy?
You can print a duplicate receipt by logging in to the website and clicking on the "My Profile" link under you name in the top right hand corner (you must be logged in the site to see the link).  Next, hold your cursor over the "My Profile" tab and select "View Transactions" from the drop down menu.  Click on the receipt button next to the item you need, then click on the "Print Receipt" link at the top of the form.

Do I have to be logged in as a member to receive the member rate on educational programs?
Yes, members (organizations) and associate members (employees) have to log in to access the member rate.

If my company is a member of NFAIS, what benefits do I receive as an individual?
Check out our membership page (http://nfais.org/member-benefits) to see the variety of benefits you will receive.

Where can I find a list of NFAIS members?
Organizational members of NFAIS can be found at https://nfais.org/nfais-members. You can also connect with other employees of member organizations by clicking on the "Member Directory" link once you have logged onto the website.

How do I add staff to the organizational member account?
Each member organization is assigned an assembly representative or primary contact. They can add you as a member associate by logging on to the organizational account and completing this form (https://nfais.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=form_169072). To add yourself to an organizational member, you can call us at (443) 221-2980 during business hours and we can add you over the phone, or use this form (https://nfais.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=form_171144), and we'll verify and provide username and password information within 48 hours.

How do I find out if my company is an NFAIS organizational member?

Organizational members of NFAIS can be found at https://nfais.org/nfais-members. If your company is a member, fill out this form  (https://nfais.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_mc&view=mc&mcid=form_171144),, and we'll connect you to your member account within 48 hours.

I forgot my user name or password. How can I log onto the website?
Click the log in button in the upper right hand corner. On the next page, click the "Forgot your password" button and enter your email address. You will be send an email prompting you to change your password.  Or, click on this Forgot Password link.

How do I change my user name or password?
Once logged onto the website, click on the "My Profile" link in the upper right hand corner. Under "My Status," click on "Edit Profile."

How do I change my address, email or phone number?
Once logged onto the website, click on the "My Profile" link in the upper right hand corner. Under "My Status," click on "Edit Profile."

How do I add a photograph to my member profile?
Once logged onto the website, click on the "My Profile" link in the upper right hand corner. Under "My Status," click on "Change Profile Picture."

How do I unsubscribe from emails?
Every email you receive will offer the opportunity to unsubscribe at the bottom of the email. Or you can call us at (443) 221-2980 during business hours and we can unsubscribe you.

I want to propose a project that will benefit the industry.  How can I collaborate with other NFAIS members?
It's easy to collaborate with other NFAS members on important issues by creating a Networking Circle. Log into the website and click on the "My Profile" link in the upper right hand corner. Under "My Status," click on "Start a new circle."  Give your circle a name and provide a brief description of the purpose of the circle.  Under the "Category" drop down menu, select "Member Networking Circles." You can invite other members to participate or wait to see what other members might want to join.

How do I get my company listed in Industry News?
