The Famous 5 Foundation educates and inspires fellow Canadians by celebrating women's achievements, commemorating the Famous 5's courage, tenacity and conviction and encouraging women's leadership by

  • honouring the past, present and future contributions of women

  • inspiring women to develop their full potential as persons

  • promoting integrity, honesty and tolerance as the basis of all we do.

  • pursuing the goals of the F5F with courage and determination

  • acting to ensure the continued success of the F5F

The Famous 5 Foundation, was launched on October 18, 1996 and on April 24, 1997 became a not for profit charitable corporation to

  • honour the Famous 5 and other Canadian women

  • commemorate the 'Persons' Case, one of the major democratic achievements by Canadians for Canadians

  • inspire, recognize and celebrate achievement

Knowing the achievements of our past is an important step in the development of our nation and the Famous 5, Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby and Nellie McClung, were truly nation builders.

Inspire

Larger than life bronze statues of the Famous 5 will be unveiled in Calgary and on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Books, teachers' kits, videos, exhibitions, stamp and coin series and other initiatives honouring the Famous 5 and the 'Persons' Case are progressing. Other projects will be added shortly.

Recognize

Prior to October 18, 1929, the Canadian constitution, the BNA Act, denied women access to full citizenship. The 'Persons' Case ended this injustice by enabling Canadian women to participate in all facets of public life, including being appointed to the Senate. As well, the 'Persons' Case triumph symbolizes the importance of women in the building of Canada.

Celebrate

By acknowledging the accomplishments of women in all fields, the F5F provides opportunities to inspire others through a mentorship speakers programme, networking and the exchange of ideas and advice. Our goal is to increase the awareness of the achievements of the Famous 5 so as to encourage people to excel, to improve the quality of life and thereby, to build our nation.
