NORAD

NORAD exhibit

Not to be left out, Canada played an important part in global defense through the Cold War by permitting missile tracking and defense systems to be installed in the country. The Edmonton Exhibition Association (EEA) did its part too, by hosting certain displays related to military security while the fair was in full swing.

One such display, run by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), was presented at the Edmonton Exhibition in 1961. At a cost of $85,000 this exhibit featured examples of the radar technology that was being operated 24 hours a day as protection against "attacks from unknown aggressors."
