Doors Open Alberta

Purpose

Doors Open Alberta is raising the profile of Alberta's places and spaces by encouraging urban and rural communities to open the doors to buildings and other venues - historic and contemporary - to the general public. This includes both publicly and privately owned domestic, commercial, industrial, religious, educational, cultural and institutional buildings and outdoor spaces.

By joining the international Doors Open movement, this initiative is becoming a major province-wide celebration of communities' diverse architectural heritage and spaces. As places and spaces and their culture are explored, all aspects of heritage benefit from the heightened public awareness to past, present, and future generations. Doors Open Alberta engages members of Alberta's communities, both young and old, heritage and cultural organizations, various levels of government, corporations, businesses, and educational institutions to rediscover their heritage; space becomes place with a resulting sense of ownership and pride.
