Restaurants, food and beverage
As
a gracious entertainer, Northlands Park is responsible for satisfying
the appetites of its many hungry guests. The organization’s Food
Services employees take care of this weighty responsibility—knowing that
food and beverages can leave a strong impression on patrons.
Culinary leadership provided by European trained cook Adel Chmait,
Northlands Park’s executive chef, ensures that appropriate food is
matched to any given event. On-site storage and cooking
facilities provide the home base for catering services, a business
activity that grew significantly following the AgriCom’s construction.
With
a multitude of bookings, and changing food trends, Food Services has to
work at a fast pace. Groups served on the exhibition grounds can vary
from 10 to 4,000 depending on the event. One morning Northlands Park
staff may be preparing an informal continental breakfast, while a few
hours later they might be working on a trendy gourmet spread.
Inside the Spectrum Building, food and beverages are offered through
two restaurants, Uplinks Sports Theatre and Colours Dining Room. The
spaces offer different experiences, with Uplinks providing a sporty and casual
experience and Colours serving as a destination for horseracing fans
seeking an elegant dinner.
In the past, Northlands Park used to directly service hockey crowds
through the Champs Lounge and Dining Room. Now, an independent company
runs the All Stars Dining Room. Like hockey games, other massive events
also require working with outside businesses. Anyone who has walked
through the Klondike Days midway grounds is familiar with the aroma
wafting from food stands.
Regulated by Northlands Park, such events take many small,
independent operations into its fold. This results in a diverse menu
that includes the perennially popular mini-donuts, cotton candy, ice
cream, corn dogs, pretzels, smoothies, stir-fries, poutine, pizza, ribs,
and burgers, among many others. Annual feature countries also provide
distinctive cuisine options alongside Klondike Days' midway fare.
