Early Communications

Reproduction of Bell's telephone demonstrated at the 1876 Centennial exhibition.Communication is a vital part of human interaction. It is the art of effectively exchanging thoughts, messages or information between two or more people, and because it is so vital to human existence, it has evolved and expanded over the years. At first, communication was limited. Speech, behaviour, special signals and writing were the main forms of information relay and long distance communication required physical effort and time. With the invention of the telegraph, a new era in communications arose, which saw the birth of the telephone, satellite, and internet networks, among many others. The history of communications from around the world is long and rich, and shows the human capability for ingenuity and creativity.
