History

Non-Academic Staff

From the beginning, the University had a legion of non-academic staff: cooks and kitchen help, dieticians, caretakers, dairymen, maids, trades personnel, librarians, office staff, cashiers, and registrars. These people often worked behind the scenes to help maintain the daily functions of life on campus.

One of the University’s earliest and most famous non-academic staff members was Reg Lister. He began his campus life as part of a construction team and fell in love with the University and its many characters. Beloved by students and other staff, he eventually became the University’s Superintendent of Residences.

It would take decades before the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA) was officially organized.
