Paulet Paul, as he was commonly known, was an extremely strong voyageur. At the meeting of the brigades, where goods from the North were exchanged with provisions from the East, Paulet was the representative of the Saskatchewan brigades, known as "les Blaireaux" or badgers, an extremely strong and aggressive animal. This characteristic was evidenced through the boxing matches held, where Paulet was the undisputed champion.

In 1820, Paul was taken prisoner and sent to the Courts of Justice in Canada by the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), and historian Morice points out that the only reason this was done was to deprive the English River brigade (Churchill River) of its best guide and helmsman. He was shot and killed at Fort Edmonton by a rival.
