The Piquette Affair

Quicklinks

Born in southern Alberta of French-Canadian parents who homesteaded in the Palliser triangle, Lucien Maynard attended the Jesuit College in Edmonton. Very active in youth affairs in Edmonton, he studied law at the University of Alberta and practiced in St. Paul.

In 1935, he entered the political arena when he ran (and won) for Beaver River as a Member of the Legislative Assembly representing the Social Credit Party. He was named Minister of Municipal Affairs in 1936, and remained in politics until 1957. Later in life Maynard resumed work in the legal profession and was eventually appointed to the bench. He died in 1996.
