There is no doubt that the Catholic Church has had an important role in the life of Franco-Albertans. As elsewhere, the liturgy has always been that which has been required by the Roman Catholic Church, including the changes engendered by the Vatican Council II.

During the early settlement period, before the establishment of the parishes, religious services were held in the homes of the faithful by the Oblate missionaries who travelled from settlement to settlement. Most of the parishes were created at the beginning of the 20th century, but with the massive currents of migration of the rural population towards the cities, there has been consolidation of these and sometimes, as in the case of the parish of Saint-Thomas d’Aquin in Edmonton, the creation of new ones1.
