L’Institut pour le Patrimoine, Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta
Officially inaugurated on July 1st, 2001, l’Institut pour le Patrimoine, Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta, seeks to:
- Preserve the archival and library material that had been collected by L’Institut de recherché (its predecessor that functioned from 1982 to 2001
- Enhance this collection by encouraging individuals and institutions to contribute archival material of particular relevance to the historical and cultural heritage of Francophone Communities in Western Canada;
- Make this heritage available to the public and specifically to the Francophone public.
In order to do this, L’Institut provides a museum, an archival center and a program of activities including research geared towards this historical embodiment of French culture in Alberta. The Campus Saint-Jean is situated in the Junioriat campus established by the religious order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in the early part of the 20th century.
This project has been supported in part by the Canada-Alberta Agreement on French-language Services; the opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect the views of the Governments of Canada or Alberta.
