L’Institut pour le Patrimoine, Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta

Officially inaugurated on July 1st, 2001, l’Institut pour le Patrimoine, Campus Saint-Jean, University of Alberta, seeks to:

  • Preserve the archival and library material that had been collected by L’Institut de recherché (its predecessor that functioned from 1982 to 2001

  • Enhance this collection by encouraging individuals and institutions to contribute archival material of particular relevance to the historical and cultural heritage of Francophone Communities in Western Canada;

  • Make this heritage available to the public and specifically to the Francophone public.

In order to do this, L’Institut provides a museum, an archival center and a program of activities including research geared towards this historical embodiment of French culture in Alberta.  The Campus Saint-Jean is situated in the Junioriat campus established by the religious order of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in the early part of the 20th century.
