The When Coal Was King website would not have been possible without funding support from the Cultural Capitals of Canada Program, Department of Canadian Heritage.

The Heritage Community Foundation—Alberta's Heritage Charity—took on the responsibility of website conceptualization and development. The Foundation is a leader in the development of online learning resources and has develop nearly 30 websites in partnership with museums, archives and other partners. These can be accessed through the gateway site albertasource.ca — the future Alberta Online Encyclopedia.

The Sir Alexander Galt Museum, City of Lethbridge, as Year of the Coal Miner project lead, provided direction and support to the project.

CFCN TV created a promotional video to support the Year of the Coal Miner multi-media campaign and made this available for use on the website.
