Transportation

TransportationThe majority of the crude oil and natural gas resources in Canada are transported by pipelines. Buried more than a metre underground, the pipeline is the only method used to send natural gas throughout Canada. Liquid petroleum products can be transported by pipeline, tanker, barge, rail, and truck. With any of these systems, safety, efficiency, and reliability are essential to its economic success. However, pipelines are the safer delivery system. According the transportation Safety board of Canada, there were twenty accidents in 2003 reported on federally regulated pipelines. In contrast, 521 marine shipping accidents, 1028 railway, and 297 aircraft accidents occurred in 2003. As a result, pipeline transportation is the number one choice of the industry.
