Aubrey Kerr

Aubrey Kerr, a native of Ontario, earned his Masters Degree from the University of British Columbia in 1942.

He was hired on by Imperial Oil the year he graduated, to carry out geological work at various locations. Five years later, Kerr was working in Leduc when drillers brought in the famed Leduc #1 well.

After playing a part in several successful finds, Kerr was offered a plum position as District Geologist for the lucrative Leduc field. Beginning in 1949, he also took a lead role in developing regulations for the industry.

Imperial went on to appoint Kerr Chief Geologist of Home Oil, and the National Energy Board followed suit in 1960.

After his retirement, Kerr went on to write several books, as well as to kick-start the Petroleum Industry Oral History Project, which began in 1980.
