"When I talk to kids, I try to impart hope—and reality," says Cree artist George Littlechild.

Returning to his Cree roots at the age of 19, Littlechild made his first visit to the Ermineskin Reserve at Hobbemma.  After being raised by foster parents in Edmonton he learned that hope was a scarce commodity on the reserve.  Many of his people faced huge social, economic, and cultural barriers. And he recognized he knew little about what it meant to be a member of the Cree nation.

Here we would like to share Mr. Littlechild's story with you through an article that first appeared in Legacy Magazine. As you read the article you will find out about the work and path of George Littlechild and how he has helped to revitalize Cree cultural expression.
