American Cultural Life

American culture has had a profound impact in Alberta. In recent years, American culture has arrived in Canada and other countries primarily through mass communications such as radio, television and the entertainment industry.

Historically, however, American settlers brought traditions and values shaped by their experience in the United States. Many of Alberta's political and religious traditions are linked to settlers from the United States. Political movements like populism and religious denominations such as the Mormons, Baptists, and various evangelical sects have arrived in Alberta with American settlers.

Today, aspects of American culture, from the popularity of sports such as baseball and rodeo to popular entertainment in theatre and music are part of the Alberta's ethos.
