The Tiger
Moth had several
different engines, including the A.D.C. Cirrus and D.H. Gypsy
engines. As production continued in the following years, many
variations were made.
The Tiger became a recognizable aircraft as many countries
ordered them for military
training purposes. In all, there were 1,703 built in
England, while 270 were built in other countries under various
licensing agreements.
The Moth later proved popular among air clubs and private
owners.
The first Moths were shipped to Canadian purchasers in 1927.
Twenty-six were shipped directly from England before de
Havilland Canada was established in April 1928.
Among the companies using Moths were: Dominion Explorer,
General Airways, and Prospectors Airways. Tiger Moths were also
used in the Hudson Straight Expedition.
