Albertans at War

Albertans, men and women, young and old, were directly affected by the sheer magnitude of the Second World War. Though global in nature, the Second World War had a unique social, economic, and cultural impact on Alberta. This particular section will examine Canadian active service overseas and the contributions made by Albertans. Moreover, it will explore Albertan life on the homefront, reflecting on the endeavours and activities of those who did not necessarily fight overseas but who still made equally important contributions to the war effort. The politicization of the war in Canada was paramount to garnering public support and raising funds. Thus, an in-depth examination of wartime propaganda will be discussed. This section serves as a precursor to upcoming sections examining specific cities in Alberta and how the war affected these communities. The entire province, with the exception of conscientious objectors, worked together for one cause—winning the war.
