Jean Walrond-Patterson and George Rogers are two Albertans of
Caribbean origin who have shaped Alberta's communities in
important and interesting ways.
Although she was born and grew up in Trinidad, Jean had not
participated in the Caribbean carnival tradition until she came to
Edmonton. She has became a key scholar on the festival in
the Caribbean diaspora community around the world.
George Rogers was born in Jamaica. Arriving in Alberta as a
young man, he worked in the oil industry before entering municipal
administration and politics.
