The Aboriginal Peoples of Canada are a diverse group of communities. Depending where they live, Aboriginals’ traditions and customs might be slightly or significantly different than those of other Aboriginal peoples.
Aboriginal people develop particular relationships with the environments and territories in which they live, and these relationships, in turn, have shaped Aboriginal traditions and culture. For example, Aboriginal People in the coastal regions have developed a special relationship with the sea, honouring both it and the sea creatures within it. The sea not only provides coastal Aboriginal populations with food, but it is also a focal point for certain spiritual practices and provides the inspiration and subject matter for a great deal of artistic expression.
