Ervie Jackson

Ervie Jackson

Ervie Jackson, born in the town of Strathmore, Alberta, in 1919, was a prominent real estate broker and influential member of the Calgary Real Estate Board, the Alberta Real Estate Association, and the Canadian Real Estate Association.

When World War Two broke out, Jackson enlisted in the army as a private, serving in Scotland. While overseas, he married Kay in 1944. After the war, they returned to Alberta, to live in Wetaskiwin, where Ervie's parents lived.

Upon his return from the war, Jackson worked in the seismic industry, but he later took a job with the Canadian Pacific Railway in Calgary. When he began working in Calgary in the late forties, there was a severe housing shortage, and he and his wife could only find a single room to live in. Their living conditions were harsh, and Jackson worked long hours with the CPR. He soon decided to join the real estate industry, where he became a salesperson for Quinton Realty, and later Campbell and Haliburton Real Estate. At Haliburton Real Estate, Jackson met Jack Rich, a fellow salesman who would become his business partner.

In 1950, the two men formed Rich and Jackson Real Estate Ltd. For a time, it was the largest real estate company in Calgary. Rich & Jackson was the first company to have multiple offices, and it eventually had seven offices, employing over 60 staff. They sold more real estate than any other business in Calgary at the time. While managing the company, Ervie became involved in organized real estate as an active promoter of Multiple Listing Services®.

In 1955, Jackson became the chairman of the Calgary Co-op Listing Bureau, and in 1958, he was president of the Alberta Real Estate Board. A year later, he became regional vice president of the Canadian Association of Real Estate Boards (CAREB), which is now called the Canadian Real Estate Association. That same year, Ervie Jackson left Rich and Jackson Real Estate Ltd. and founded Ervie Jackson and Associates. While heading his new company, he was elected president of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1964.

Ervie has been retired from real estate for several years. He has two children, Andy and Gary, and five grandchildren. He spends his retirement days traveling in Europe and caring for some farm property that he owns in Alberta.
