Wayne Stephenson

Calgary REALTOR® Wayne Stephenson started his career in sports. He was the only white player on the St. Louis Black Cardinals. His skill would see him inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. Stephenson was also a hockey player, playing semi-pro and eventually ending up on a team in Olds, Alberta.

Since Stephenson was not able to make it to the NHL, he started looking for other full time work. He worked as a butcher, and then as a framer. While framing in 1955, the builder for whom he worked offered him a chance to sell homes, which precipitated Stephenson's entry into the real estate industry.

In 1963, Stephenson founded his own company in Calgary. He and his business partner developed and sold the Bearspaw Golf and Country Club.

Wayne Stephenson was also involved in organized real estate. He was president of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1980, and president of the Alberta Real Estate Association 1984.

Stephenson continues to work in real estate.
