Grace Turley

As one of the first women in Calgary's real estate industry, Grace Turley's pioneering real estate career has broken down barriers for other women within the industry.

Turley responded to an advertisement in a newspaper for Doug Hawkes and Associates, looking for an "experienced real estate man." She applied for the job and got it, beginning her real estate career in 1955. She worked for the company only a year, until joining Canada Realty for a year, and then Wilson Realty in 1957. She worked there for 10 years, before founding her own company, Regent Realty Ltd. in 1967, a company still in business and still managed by Turley. Turley's company specialized in the sale of commercial real estate.

In 1975, Grace Turley became the first female director of the Calgary Real Estate Board, remaining director until 1978. She was also vice-president of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1977.

Grace Turley has written a book about her career in real estate, called Done Deals: Memorable Calgary Real Estate Sales (Falcon Press, 2005).
