Henry (Hank) Vos

Calgary Mortgage Broker and REALTOR® Henry (Hank) Vos' first career was in the mortgage business, working for Ferguson's Supply. He later became a ledger clerk for Interprovincial Pipeline. Three years later, he decided to quit the business, and he turned to real estate. Through his friend, a salesman with Melton Real Estate, Hank secured a job with the Melton's finance department. In 1956, the company opened a branch in Calgary, and he was transferred there. In the mid-1960s, Melton Real Estate, then called Melcor, ended their mortgage activity, so in 1968, Hank became an independent mortgage broker.

While working in the real estate industry, Hank had 11 children over 13 years with his wife Mary. Hank Vos had a busy family life. From 1968 to 1976, he and his family toured as the Vos Family Singers, winning Kiwanis Festival competitions, and doing choreography for the Young Canadians at the Calgary Stampede. They also performed at the World Fair in Spokane in 1974 and at the Montreal Olympics in 1976.

In the 1980s, Hank Vos' Scholar Mortgage Corporation struggled with the downturn in the real estate market. Forced to work longer hours because high rates of property repossession forced him into the role of property manager, Hank quit the mortgage business and entered a new field - real estate sales. In 1985, Hank began working as a salesman for Royal LePage.

Hank was also teacher within the real estate industry, instructing mortgage financing courses through the Calgary Real Estate Board, the Alberta Real Estate Association, and the University of Calgary. In 1986, he served as the Calgary Real Estate Board's director of education.

Hank Vos has been retired from the real estate industry since 1994. Retired but not idle, Vos enjoys his role as granddad to more than 45 grandchildren.
