Telephone Era in Alberta >> Policy and
Legislation
A telephone company, like any other successful business, poses
the need for policy and legislation. A clear plan of action is
needed in order to influence and determine the company’s decisions,
such as deciding who will own what sectors of the business and how
profit will be divided. Laws are proposed and enacted, and serve as
the guiding principles that a company follows.
In a business as widespread and crucial to society as the
telephone one, there is also a need to adapt to new situations posed
by society’s growing needs and constantly-evolving technology. The
telephone companies who have coloured Alberta’s past and who serve
Albertans today have made a rich history in the field of policy and
legislation.
