Medicine Hat Real Estate History

Medicine Hat City Hall

Medicine Hat is Alberta’s fifth largest city, and the capital of the natural gas industry. It is known for having the cheapest taxes in the provinces and for being the sunniest city in Canada.

Medicine Hat started in 1883 as one of the first Canadian Pacific Railway settlements in the area that would become the province of Alberta. These articles document the growth of Medicine Hat from an important settlement in the North West Territories, through a natural gas bonanza that fuelled a real estate boom and transformed Medicine Hat into a manufacturing powerhouse, through two world wars and a lengthy economic depression, and through its post war growth into one of the most important oil and gas cities in Canada.

The City of Medicine Hat is home to the Medicine Hat Real Estate Board Co-operative, made up of 130 REALTORS® from Medicine Hat, Dunmore, Seven Persons, Redcliff, and Irvine.
