North Eastern Alberta

The North Eastern Alberta Real Estate Board represents REALTORS® throughout north eastern Alberta, which includes the settlements Lac La Biche, Redwater, St. Paul, Bonnyville and Cold Lake. Much of this area was originally settled by French Canadians. In this Lakeland region of Alberta, tourism is an increasingly important industry. The oil and gas industry industries also play a vital role in the region, particularly through the transformation of the farming hamlet of Redwater into an oil boom town. Another important industry in the region is the Canadian military; Cold Lake is the location of the Canadian Air Forces Base, 4 Wing, which is the largest employer in the area.

These industries have contributed to the economic and population growth of north eastern Alberta, and to the prosperity of the REALTORS® and brokerages represented by the North Eastern Alberta Real Estate Board.

The following articles recount the developmental history of this vital region, from its origins as popular settlement area for French Canadians, to the growth of the natural resource industries after World War Two, including the oil boom in Redwater, and to growth of modern towns and cities, through the oil, gas, and tourism industries.
