The comptroller of the Royal North West Mounted Police, who assisted
the Mormon bishop Charles Ora Card in appropriating through
parliament, $2,100 "for aid to telephone line from Lethbridge to
Cardston and extensions, 70 miles [112.6 kilometres] at rate of $30
per mile, on condition that government messages shall be sent free."
