Although separated from Europe by the Atlantic Ocean, the
effects of war abroad were still felt in New France. During the
War of Spanish Succession, France lost several key colonies in
North America, and was forced to admit defeat and accept the
terms of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
The source of conflict for the Seven Years War originated in
North America and erupted into what can be considered a
worldwide war, as it involved all of the major European
countries of the day and spread into their colonies across the
globe.
