The desire to establish French-Canadians across the country was a common dream for the clergy of both Eastern and Western Canada. It was hoped that in the West, the Métis would learn the rudimentaries of agriculture from their peers who would arrive from the East to take homesteads, and in this fashion, would be assimilated to them.
