Begin the lesson by asking students to brainstorm what they know about
elections at different levels of government and why it is important to
vote. Provide students with a visual organizer such as the
Circle Map to help them record how elections and voting works at
different levels of government.
If students are having difficulty identifying information about
elections and voting, have them do a quick search of different library
or Internet sources on levels of government and voting and use these
to identify interesting facts and ideas they encounter in their
searches.
