In 1911, German entrepreneur Martin Cohn unveiled his vision of a revolutionary Rocky Mountain garden city paradise known as Nordegg. It was to be a coal mining community unlike any other. The Impossible Home: Robert Kroetsch And His German Roots

In this excerpt, filmmaker Carl Bessai tells the story of Alberta novelist and poet Robert Kroetsch and his journey to know his German roots.  In his stories and poems, Kroetsch recounts the immigration of his German great, great-grandfather to Ontario and then to Heisler, Alberta.   The Impossible Home is one of the A Scattering of Seeds film series by White Pine Pictures.  The series celebrates the grit and character of unsung immigrants who staked their families and futures on a second chance in Canada.  These personal portraits celebrate the diversity of the first families who arrived in Canada to build a nation.
